The prosthetic treatment that also involves the front teeth represents for many patients the possibility of improving the appearance of their smile, – expressive and character qualities. In these treatments, the possibility of verifying the definitive result of our potential treatment before irreversibly embarking on therapy represents a fundamental work tool.
The mock up is a procedure that allows the patient to immediately evaluate what the result of their treatment will be even before accepting and undertaking the treatment plan. It can be performed clinically (therefore in the patient’s mouth using removable resins with direct or indirect technique) or digitally (on the computer).
To perform the mock up it is necessary to undergo an appointment of “data collection” where in addition to the clinical visit, radiological tests are performed, the iconographic collection then photographic set and videos, study impressions and the compilation of a personalized aesthetic folder.
From all this information, the clinician develops a prosthetic project which, through the work of the dental technician, takes the form of diagnostic wax-up. At this point the clinician will reproduce this wax-up in the patient’s mouth with the possibility of immediately evaluating the result obtained both from an aesthetic and functional point of view.
At this stage there is still the possibility of making new changes to the projected plan until the clinician and patient obtain an optimal situation. After obtaining a satisfactory result with the mock up, it will be easy for the clinician to conclude the treatment with definitive restorations while maintaining the aesthetic and functional parameters previously determined.
In our experience we have observed that this procedure can be performed in 80% of the cases that come to our attention.
